A downloadable game

No more an idea for a story is fixed at this point.

Margon (welsh for sailor/captain or defender) finds himself on a destroyed and dying earth, its inhabitant in despair and mutual distrust. He wants to, he has to leave this place! On his escape journey to better lands, despite all odds he makes some friends along the way. Ultimately, he has to abandon earth and makes is way through the solar system and, eventually towards the stars while he piece by piece uncovers a grand secret.

The genre is not clear up until this point, and maybe never will be. The art style is going to be pixel art. I am experimenting with 2D side-scrolling (on earth and on celestial body, as well as flying in a space ship (over the 2D plane) through asteroid belt, questing, maybe a bit of base/ship building.

Over the years I came across great science fiction stories and games with partially unresolved story arcs, which left me partially unhappy, also I have some ideas of my own for a long time, on the other hand there have been more and more fascinating imagery of our solar systems celestial bodies. I would like to fuse all of that in a hard science fiction game novel. As soon as there is more to tell, I let you know.

Apart from my own ideas, my art style and the experience is getting inspiration from Katana Zero, Hollow Knight, Starbound, Celeste, Death Trash, Dune and Eastward, The Expanse, A Fire Upon Deep, Neuromancer, Steel Sky, Solar Winds and books from Andreas Brandhorst, Andrian Tschaikowsky and Venor Vinge among others.

I am exchanging ideas, concepts and inspiration with https://unkrass.itch.io/survivo/devlog/370551/survivo-but-why-vo - maybe even intertwining the stories at some point. Who knows, right :)

At this point I am using:

  • Unity with VS Code as C# editor
  • Aseprite for pixel art, Procreate for Concept Art
  • Milanote for game design and concepts
  • Maybe WorldAnvil for Map Design (we will see)
  • Trello for planning
  • and a lot of YouTube and Udemy Tutorials and Coursers about everything mentioned above as well as Game Design, Level Design, World Building, Story Scripting, Drawing etc. pp.
